Meet The Team

Meet Your FitRight Physio Team

All of the FitRight Physio Instructors are qualified physiotherapists, who have all done extra training in pelvic floor health and exercise for women. This means that you are exercising each week with a health professional who can answer your questions about fitness, muscle and joint pain, bladder and bowel issues and more.

It also means that you are entitled to a private health fund discount on the classes if you have cover for Physiotherapy!

Where do you work as a Physio and what type of clients do you treat on a normal day?

After taking time off to have my son, I have returned to work one day a week at Southcare Physiotherapy in Murdoch. I treat people with a variety of different pelvic floor muscle issues (bladder and bowel problems, painful sex, vaginal prolapse etc) as well as doing pregnancy and postnatal assessments for exercise prescription and to manage common aches and pains in the childbearing year.

Which FitRight classes do you currently teach?

I teach the Baby&Me, Bump&Me, MumTime and FitRight Woman classes in Ardross.

What do you love most about being a FitRight Instructor?

I absolutely love feeling like I’m making a positive impact on someone’s experience in the childbearing year, through bonding with their baby, getting some ‘Me Time’ and keeping their body strong. I also love that I’m doing my little part to help prevent these women from suffering with common pelvic floor muscle related issues in the future – if we can empower them at this point to change habits and optimise their muscles, then at menopausal age hopefully they can avoid common problems like prolapse and incontinence that maybe their mothers and grandmothers suffered from. I never feel like FitRight instructing is work – I get to exercise and chat with likeminded expectant and new Mums every week!

Where do you work as a Physio and what type of clients do you treat on a normal day?

I work in private practice at LifeCare SouthCare Physiotherapy, inside St John of God Hospital in Murdoch. I am interested in women’s health, musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapy. I see a mixed caseload of patients – I treat new breastfeeding mums with ultrasound for blocked ducts and laser therapy for cracked nipples, plus patients with musculoskeletal pain and sports injuries. I also run several group sessions such as physio-supervised exercise rehabilitation, and multiple hydrotherapy classes (for pregnant women, postnatal mums, parent and baby pool nursery rhymes, orthopaedic/post-operative rehab and 1 on 1 hydrotherapy sessions). I am passionate about returning people to full function for their chosen activity/sport, and am also passionate about Sports Physiotherapy. I recently worked as a physio at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in 2018, and am currently a team physiotherapist for the WA Football Commission State Girls Academy, and the Goldfield Giants in the State Basketball League.

Which FitRight classes do you currently teach?

I am the Director of the recently launched branch FitRight Woman, FitRight’s new branch of classes for peri-menopausal and menopausal women between roughly 45 and 65 years old. I run my class in Willetton on Wednesdays at 11am, and direct the branch to manage the other classes run in Ardross & Manning, and aim to soon expand FitRight Woman to cover more areas of Perth.

What do you love most about being a FitRight Instructor?

I loved first joining in FitRight classes as a participant through my own pregnancy and postnatal periods, and was so passionate about the classes that I couldn’t wait to become an instructor. I absolutely love Taryn’s concept of creating a pelvic-floor-friendly, physio-lead group class to help women going through any life stage improve their strength and fitness, in a safe way. The concept of being PROACTIVE about Pelvic Floor Health instead of REACTIVE is inspiring. I love connecting with the women in my classes, hearing about their journeys, and creating a lovely community where women can share, learn and enjoy some time to focus on themselves.

Where do you work as a Physio and what type of clients do you treat on a normal day?

I’m currently on maternity leave from my role as the Senior Physiotherapist of the coronary care unit and heart transplant team after having my delightful baby boy in June 2017. My job primarily involves rehabilitation of patients on the ward and in the gym following minor and major cardiac events. Yes, my current job is worlds away from being a FitRight instructor, but after taking part in these classes myself during my pregnancy and after having my baby I really wanted to share this program with mums in my own neighbourhood.

Which FitRight classes do you currently teach?

Currently on maternity leave.

What do you love most about being a FitRight Instructor?

FitRight Bump & Me classes definitely made me feel stronger during my pregnancy and assisted my recovery after having my baby. I want to be able to help other pregnant women feel empowered by exercise in a safe Physio-led environment.

FitRight Baby & me classes gave me an hour to myself (out of the house!) with my baby still in the room, and being cared for by the loveliest volunteers, who adored my little man. I want to help new mums to also be able to take this time out to look after their own bodies and minds.

FitRight classes bring women together to share the highs and lows of motherhood and pregnancy – what better way to do this than through exercise?
