Bubbaroo

Name

Nicole Cassey – Owner & Founder of Bubbaroo

Give us a summary of what your company is about and how you came to create it.

Nicole Cassey is a local Perth Mum to Jacob and Emily, founder and owner of Bubbaroo Baby Sleepwear. Nicole was inspired to create Bubbaroo and Australia’s first swaddle after the personal experience she had with her first child, Jacob.

Bubbaroo have created a range of premium 100% natural swaddles, transitional swaddles, baby sleeping bags and bedding.

Why do you love working with Mums/babies/kids so much?

I know what it’s like when your baby just isn’t sleeping. I’ve been there and remember feeling so overwhelmed. I don’t believe any mother should have to go through what I went through. We did get there and my journey with Jacob is what inspired me to create Bubbaroo. I have a passion for sharing knowledge and community. I ensure that at Bubbaroo we’re up to date with the latest safe sleep research and collaborate with specialists and experts that believe what we believe and have a passion for helping and supporting parents.

What do you wish all expectant and new Mums knew about your area of expertise?

I think we’re so focussed on the birth of our baby that we’re not as prepared for the monumental change that a baby will have on our entire life. It can be so overwhelming especially when you’re so sleep deprived. I know what it’s like, I suffered with my own health issues and believe that Mums need to focus on their own health and well-being too – You cannot pour from an empty cup and you need to look after yourself too. I created Bubbaroo to help babies sleep so then Mums and the whole family can get the sleep they need too!

Milk + Nourish

Homemade Lactation Products

Name

Kylie Harbo & Leigh Maclean – Owners and operators

Give us a summary of what your company is about and how you came to create it.

Milk + Nourish was created in 2017 by two Perth mums, who, having both breastfed their children, know the love, effort and challenges that breastfeeding brings. They believe it is a personal experience and aim to support Mums to thrive.

Leigh and Kylie had been friends for years, but after having their first babies a month apart in 2014 they grew extremely close. In 2016, they both went on to have another baby, and as they both breastfed they were making lactation cookies for themselves and friends, the demand grew and they launched their online store.

They prepare homemade cookies incorporating galactagogues including brewer’s yeast, flaxseed and oats. They have also recently launched DIY cookie mix and boosters.

Each order is baked fresh and delivered within 2-5 business days. If you’re local to the 6018 area you can also choose to pick up. There are also a few stockists around Perth.

Why do you love working with Mums/babies/kids so much?

We love working with Mums and supporting their breastfeeding journey, we’ve created a product to give them confidence to breastfeed as long as they feel comfortable to.

What do you wish all expectant and new Mums knew about your area of expertise?

Galactagogues are foods, herbs or medications that may help to increase breastmilk supply by increasing prolactin levels.

Mealtime Building Blocks

Name

Dr Kyla Smith – Paediatric Dietitian and Director

Give us a summary of what your company is about and how you came to create it.

Mealtime Building Blocks offers specialist help for fussy eating and stressful mealtimes. I started because I felt like there was so much I could do to help parents and children enjoy food and eating together, so many families weren’t getting access to a decent, evidence-based service. Most of the time general advice isn’t helpful for individual families and their children. With my partner (Lauren Pike, Occupational Therapist) we offer home visits across Perth, clinic appointments, mum’s group sessions and workshops.

Why do you love working with Mums/babies/kids so much?

I feel like there’s so much potential for positive change. Everyone knows that healthy eating is important, but for particularly fussy eaters, this isn’t easy! If you’ve got a child who refuses most fruits and veggies, or doesn’t like meat, then it can be incredibly stressful. I love how I can work with mums to work out an individual plan for their family. Then the fun job of working with the kiddies to help them feel confident about food.

What do you wish all expectant and new Mums knew about your area of expertise?

Eating has to be enjoyable. There’s so much pressure on Mums to ‘get’ healthy food into their kids, but that approach actually makes kids fussier. A positive approach to eating, without pressure, is key to developing a good relationship with food.

Baby Mealtimes & Toddler Mealtimes

Name

Dr Kyla Smith – Paediatric Dietitian and Founder

Give us a summary of what your company is about and how you came to create it.

Baby Mealtimes and Toddler Mealtimes are online subscription websites with Social Mesia support pages to make feeding your baby or toddler enjoyable. I started Baby Mealtimes after having my first and realising that parents were SOOOOO confused about how and when to start food.

I believe that parents need a reliable, practical and supportive service to help them feed their babies with confidence and without stress. I want to help you enjoy this stage with your child and feel good about family mealtimes, so I’ll give you the tools to help you make decisions about what works best for you and your family.

Why do you love working with Mums/babies/kids so much?

Mainly because I feel like there’s so much potential for positive change. The way we start to feed our children has such a long-lasting impact on how well they eat in future. But so many parents are getting conflicting advice and this is resulting in the exact thing they were trying to prevent- fussy eaters!

Complete Scar Therapy

Name

Jessica Chandler – Occupational Therapist

Give us a summary of what your company is about and how you came to create it.

We are all about providing evidence based, clinical advice for optimal scar outcomes. We both come from a background of burns, an area where people get extensive scar management advice and intervention. We noticed a gap in service provision for people who were developing, or were at risk of developing, scarring from injuries or surgeries that were NOT burns related. It can be so debilitating to live with adverse scarring, and relatively easy to fix with the right advice. My areas of passion are Mastectomy and C Section Scars.

Why do you love working with Mums/babies/kids so much?

I love the idea of being able to do something to make another mum’s life easier. I work a lot with C Section scars, and having had a lot of trouble with my own, my hope is to be able to make a difference to other mums so they don’t have to go through what I did. Being a mum is enough of a challenge without throwing in other complications!! Plus I love a good chat and the odd baby cuddle when I’m at work 🙂

What do you wish all expectant and new Mums knew about your area of expertise?

Basic scar management following a C Section, and what is and isn’t normal so they know when to seek help.

MUMMACTIV

Name

Joanne Shepherd – Director/Designer

Give us a summary of what your company is about and how you came to create it.

Mummactiv is a pregnancy/nursing activewear line designed to keep Mums stylishly active no matter what stage they are at. Whether they are Pregnant/Nursing or Postpartum we have you covered with functional and fashionable pieces. The line was created when I was pregnant with my second and there were no functional pieces that accommodated my changing needs. The clothes I used to wear were no longer able to be worn or I had to wear a crop and then change it to feed.

Why do you love working with Mums/babies/kids so much?

Part of what we are also doing is to try to create an Active Mum Revolution whereby we support and encourage Mums to become active within their constraints or limitations and show them how this is possible. Mums give so much of themselves and we are hoping that what we do helps Mums to regain just a little bit of themselves back again (and feel beautiful in the process).

What do you wish all expectant and new Mums knew about your area of expertise?

That exercise during pregnancy has unending benefits for both the unborn baby and Mum. It can help to reduce backaches, constipation, bloating and swelling but also help with labour and the recovery process.

Why do you love working with Mums/babies/kids so much?

The BubDesk mission is to create a world where parents truly can have it all. I see no reason why career success and family should be a choice and love to see mums in business achieve it all.

What do you wish all expectant and new Mums knew about your area of expertise?

Caroline’s Angels Sleep Specialists

Name

Caroline McMahon RN RM BSN

Give us a summary of what your company is about and how you came to create it.

Carolines Angels came about as I had struggled terribly with my own sons and their sleep. The style of help offered from parent help centres often made my son’s sleep worse which I didn’t think was possible.

Along with Caroline Radford RN RM CHN BSN, we developed our patented Infant Sleep Model – Dynamic Sleep Connection™. We broke down the essential steps required for sleep, then focused on implementing them in an individualised format. Sleep improvement is then much easier without the need for abrupt extinction methods.

Why do you love working with Mums/babies/kids so much?

I have been naturally fascinated with babies since I was a child. I loved being with mothers and babies so much that I did Midwifery and have since have expanded to assist the difficult areas of parenting, offering not only a solution to their problems, but being genuinely empathetic and guiding them to being the parent that they wish to be.

What do you wish all expectant and new Mums knew about your area of expertise?

All of our team are Midwives as well as mothers, and have experienced issues with sleep and settling first hand.
Our support and guidance is not just from a text book and our learning as health professionals. While research based evidence is
foremost, we also combine that with a wealth of experience and understanding of the
struggles, anxiety and exhaustion that mothers are challenged with. We work with parents
to find a suitable plan for their own unique child using a more gentle approach.

Step by Step Physiotherapy

Name

Lisa Cargeeg Practice Director, Alison Mason and Vicky Mosnier Senior physiotherapists

Give us a summary of what your company is about and how you came to create it.

Step by Step Physiotherapy specialises in working with families to support the gross motor development of babies and children. We only treat babies and children so Lisa wanted to create a purpose built space where parents and children felt well supported and welcome filled with toys and attractions to encourage babies and children to play and move.

Why do you love working with Mums/babies/kids so much?

We love seeing families delight in the way their children move. It is rewarding teaching parents how to play with their children in a way that supports motor development. We love helping kids to reach milestones and share the joy that their success brings. Paediatric physio is fun, unpredictable and full of curve balls! We love finding new ways to encourage children to enjoy movement and are constantly surprised and amused by the things they teach us!

What do you wish all expectant and new Mums knew about your area of expertise?

Physios are for little people too! Just like Women’s Health, Paediatrics is a physio specialty. We teach parents how to hold, support, move and play with their baby. This is important for helping them to settle, enjoy movement and to progress through their motor milestones. It can also help parents to enjoy this special time.

Fiona Rogerson | Exhale Counselling & Wellbeing

| Exhale Birth

Name

Fiona Rogerson (B.Couns) – Perinatal Counsellor and HypnoBirthing Educator

Give us a summary of what your company is about and how you came to create it.

Exhale Counselling & Wellbeing was created from a culmination of my own personal experiences of birth and motherhood together with what I witnessed to be similar experiences of other mothers.  We are all entitled to live a rewarding and fulfilling life, but at times, for mothers in particular, this just doesn’t seem possible.  With the right support, it is possible.  I offer women safe, non-judgmental, confidential counselling with a perinatal focus, in the areas of birth trauma, prenatal and postnatal anxiety, loss of identity, low self-esteem, anger and guilt, stress, grief and loss, fertility issues, life challenges, and unplanned pregnancy.

I also offer unbiased, inclusive HypnoBirthing childbirth classes, promoting informed choice, empowerment and confidence in birthing women.

Exhale Counselling & Wellbeing works to support mothers in all phases of motherhood so that she can be fulfilled and happy… providing the tools a women needs to seek out a positive experience from birth, and to also support her emotionally and psychologically if and when she needs it.

Why do you love working with Mums/babies/kids so much?

Pregnancy, birth and motherhood can be an incredibly intense time for so many women.  It can be a rollercoaster of highs and lows, with challenges that were never expected.  Each woman has the right to be happy, confident and fulfilled, and my work in antenatal education and counselling support facilitates women claiming that right and living it.  I’ve been there myself, and I know things can be different.

What do you wish all expectant and new Mums knew about your area of expertise?

You are not alone in what you feel, even if you’re not exactly sure what you feel… about your pregnancy, your birth, your parenting, yourself.  Fear, anxiety, guilt, anger, numbness, confusion.  But it doesn’t have to be that way. With the right support and guidance, it can be different.

Oceanic Waterbabies

Name

Kelly Rae, Founder and Director of Oceanic Waterbabies Pty Ltd

Give us a summary of what your company is about and how you came to create it.

Waterbabies is a specialised infant swimming program for parents with babies aged from 10 weeks to 6 years. It’s hands on experience of love, joy and connection in the water. I am a mother of three, now beautiful grown adults and when I wanted to teach my first baby to swim 32 years ago I found there wasn’t anywhere that provided education, support, guidance AND FUN lessons. This was my inspiration to create Waterbabies and develop a program that empowers parents to become their baby’s teacher and provide an outstanding swimming outcome.

Why do you love working with Mums so much?

Helping mums (and dads) to recognize their innate parenting wisdom, to trust themselves to connect even deeper than they thought possible is a beautiful and life changing opportunity each time we get in the water.

What do you wish all expectant and new Mums knew about your area of expertise?

Swimming lessons for babies are most effective when they are nurturing and enjoyable. As adults, we see too clearly how fear, tension and anxiety when you’re young creates a breeding ground for tense underachieving adults.

What if you could, whilst learning to swim, also learn life skills that carry you towards your achievements with ease. If your child learns how to succeed with love, encouragement and deep connection to you as the parent, they will surely trust you whenever they need guidance. If your child learns to breath and co-ordinate their body at an early age, together with loving touch and JOY, brain function and creativity increases. Waterbabies provides learning and activities for your child to ensure they have a strong foundation that carries them and you in loving connection throughout life.
